iPhone info from WWDC

I kind of feel bad for the people who jumped the gun and purchased the iPhone. Because the upcoming iPhone will have more features and looks like it’ll be much cheaper.

It’ll have 3G and GPS. Plus, the 8GB version will only cost $199. I figure it’ll sell her at about P55-to-$1 conversion, which means it’ll cost about P11,000, a far cry from the P25,000-P30,000 price tag I see in the shops around Edsa Shangri-la and Makati.

So when will it arrive in the Philippines? Apple gave no specific date, but it was mentioned that the new version will start rolling out on July 11th. At least Philippines is one of the 70 countries mentioned.

Well, unless there will be a way to circumvent the required onsite activation for the new iPhones, the 1st Gen iPhones may be a better deal. Unless you have an existing plan with the authorized countries’ carrier (in the Phils. case will be Globe-Telecom)and have the ability to transfer your existing plan, you will need to abandon your existing carrier and purchase a new plan to purchase the new iPhone. The other thing that will add cost is if you dont have an existing data plan you will need to purchase one which includes the 3G access.

One other thing is the 1stGen iPhone will have the ability to use all the upcoming software upgrades via firmware 2.0(http://www.tuaw.com/2008/06/10/what-first-generation-iphone-owners-can-expect/) except of course no GPS (which I wont be using anyway that often). Other than that, I think the existing iPhone is still a good deal.
